About The Wilderness Backpacker Lodge Intenship Program

Program Details

Wilderness Backpacker Lodge is a stunning backpackers set on an old rambling farm surrounded by Wilderness National Park, on the bend of the Touw river. This 1874 Homestead is jam-packed with character and old fashioned delights. It is enveloped by a veranda overlooking the Touw river, the perfect spot for sunrises and sundowners, whilst admiring the indigenous wildlife.

The Backpackers is situated close to the beautiful white beaches of Wilderness and the Wilderness national park which offers lots of hiking trials and adventure such as canoeing, kloofing, absailing, paragliding, horse riding, surfing and lots more. Wilderness is a small village situated on the Garden Route and is unique by being the only inhabitation in South Africa to be located within a National Park. The Indian ocean washes 27km of beautiful sandy beaches to the South and the Outeniqua Mountain range dominates the skyline to the North.

Wilderness Backpacker Lodge offers affordable accommodation to Nature lovers. They have 8 double rooms and two 6 bed dorm rooms plus lots of space for camping. They also offer guests a lovely bar area and a campfire where they can spend evenings socialising. Wilderness Backpacker Lodge is the perfect place to CHILL OUT!! All you need is within walking distance from Wilderness Backpacker Lodge, including beautiful Waterfalls, Pubs, Beaches, Shops, Restaurants and the authentic steam train.

Accommodation

Staff accommodation on site in a room with 2 bunk beds, towels, electricity, hot & cold water, heaters and unlimited access to the internet is provided. They will try and keep these rooms private that volunteers don’t need to share, it’s however not guaranteed.

Wilderness Backpacker Lodge will provide the volunteer with groceries which they can cook themselves. If dinner is served to guests the volunteers are welcome to join in for dinner. The hostel is a 20 minute walk from Wilderness village. The beach and all shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The owner/manager will also accommodate reasonable transport requests by arrangement.

What will you do?

Main duties would include, bartending, booking in and out guests, reception, booking tours and activities, interacting with guests, online bookings, marketing and day to day running of the Backpackers. Working Hours vary over weekdays and weekends and volunteers are expected to work and average of 40 hrs a week, these hours are however flexible. Volunteers can wear casual clothes whilst on duty.
